Makeup Monday…

All about beauty tips every Monday.
I was inspired over the weekend to talk about Lip-Liner. I love liner. I do not wear it all the time, but when I want to have more of a defined lips, I make sure to pull out sharpener and get it ready.
Over the weekend I was at a party where I knew no one and there for I was talking to everyone. I happen to stumble across the cutest college kid. We made small talk for a bit. but, I could not help but look at her lips. This 5 foot nothing petite little things lip-liner was taking over her entire face and distracting me from the rest of her beautiful features. I wanted to grab her hand take her into the neatest bathroom and give her a lesson on how to apply and wear liner and lipstick.
This is why I wanted to make sure I give the lip-liner 101 to you all. It is super easy to just blend your liner and lipstick together. It will enhance your lips and not distract from your beauty.

Step one:
Apply lip liner to outline your lip. If you think by going outside you actual lip line will make them appear bigger… You are sooooooo wrong. You will end up looking like BOBO the clown.

Step two:
This step is the secret tool to blending liner and lipstick. Put on your lipstick on horizontal instead of vertical. I use a lipstick brush to make sure I my lips are even. However, either a brush or your actual stick will work great. Just do it like you would brushing your teeth, up and down not side to side.

Step three:
After applying your lipstick HORIZONTAL, Blot your lips and apply your lipstick one more time. It sounds tedious to be  blotting and re-applying. By doing this will help your lipstick last longer on your lips.

Final Step:
Apply lip gloss, MAC glass, or what I use Carmex to give a shine kissable look.

Maxi-fyYour Rocker Chic

One of my fave editorial fashionistas is none other than the Senior Fashion Editor for Marie Claire, Zanna Roberts Rossi. Her take on cool girl chic is effortless. One of my favorite looks is when she was strutting her stuff during Fashion Week last year. Wearing an amazing full maxi skirt with a basic tee and kick-ass jacket really made for an exquisite shot of Zanna walking to a show. I went over to one of my go to shopping sites to pull an outfit from her inspirational shot.

Back to School…

Remember the days of going back to school was the best part about summer. Of course after a week in, the novelty wears off and you already went through your new school clothes. Now a days, all of our days are running together we don’t have summer to spend with friends or gearing up going back to school.

I am here to introduce a new rule. I have made the decision to go back to school shopping for myself this year. Just because I am no longer in school does not mean I have to give up my favorite pastime.  I put together two looks that I know will mix and match everything I already own in my closet.

My first look is my  “Working Girl Chic” Something that every 9-5 lady can put on in the morning and feel refined all day long.  Instead Of a new backpack I would need an iPad case and will be trading in my  lace-up Chuck Taylors, for Givenchy heels.

My other look that fits my alter-ego personalty. I call this look “Classic on Acid”  Something a little more edgier but still sophisticated. All the kids on the playground will be either envious of me or intimidated of how kick ass I will look.

Both of these outfits cost well into the thousands of dollars range. However the great thing about back to school shopping when you are my age, is that you will not be growing out of your clothes in 6 months. These are all investment pieces that you will have in your closet for years to come. Who said going back to school is a drag?

Crayola Carving

I stumbled across this artist and was immidetly DRAWN to her choice medium. Inspired by folk wood carving, Diem Chau has created amazing carvings with Crayons. Diem chose crayons as her medium for their fragility and reminder of childhood. Here she has carved the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. Impressive, right?

Why Am I So Mixed Up???

One of the trends I am falling in love with this week is mixing and matching patterns. I found a few pictures from some  fashionista’s who executed this trend effortlessly. When matching 3 or more patterns, it is important that they are not the same design. This will prevent your patterns from visually competing with one another. For example: A striped skirt should not be worn with a striped blouse. Instead, exchange one of the striped patterns for a geometric pattern. This will give you a more cohesive look. Make sure you do not over doooo your patterns. Do not exceed three different patterns in a single outfit.

Olivia is wearing a busy floral skirt and the striped shirt is a good contrast because of the muted beige and orange color. Bianca is wearing a leopard jumper and  mixed it up with different texture blazer. Margherita is the queen at carrying off multiple patterns. That is what Missoni is all about.

I took it upon myself to go shopping in my closet this morning and pick out a few looks that I will be wearing this week and sporting my love for this trend.

The leopard button up blouse ( Zara) is a busy top in itself. The polka-doted shorts I bought from Topshop complement the top without competing with it. By adding the Rebecca Minkoff croc embossed bag, I gave it an added texture dimension. The Mea Shadow cut out wedges work because they are a nude color that will blend into my skin and will make my legs appear longer. Lastly, I added the brown vintage belt to break up the patterns so it all look cohesive and flawless.

This Missoni Dress(shown below) works because of the monochromatic hues are in the same color family. The Yellow belt adds a pop of fun and yet is contrasting to the dress. Add a pair of leopard wedges that   is minimal,  only covering the toe’s. I would not suggest  full animal print bootie. A little shoe flair complements the dress and belt.

Mixing and matching patterns can be done outside of just your clothes. I wanted to take a picture of my living room to show you that contrasting can also be used in interior design as well. I love bright colors and different textiles in my apartment and wanted to share just how fun and easy it is to add some spice to a living area as well as you clothing.

The main reason why I love mixing and matching is because you can have so much fun and be creative. The key to this trend is not taking it toooo seriously. NOW….Go to your closet, have fun and enjoy.

Hot Child in the City…

With this being my first offical summer in New york City, I am trying to figure out my “go to”  looks on those hot week days heading into the office. I sometimes question, Is this appropriate?

I work in a very relaxed office filled with creative people. There is a not much of a dress code. However, I like to look put together, polished and professional.

My first look I put together can all be found on Shopbop.com. It is my casual cool look when I dont want to fret or fuss over an outfit.Tailored black shorts, a thin flowey tank with a fun beaded vest is clean and fun but sure to keep me cool. I wear Flat sandals with this outfit cause these are the days that I am running around the studio up on my feet. Just a busy active day.

This next look I put together on Net-A-Porter.com. I am obbsessed with maxi skirts this season. They are just so easy to throw on and go. You still get the since of being dressier but feeling comfortable.

These are just a couple looks that I keep on standby during my course of a work week. Light weight easy items are a must have to get through the East Coast summers.

Trend Tuesday…

Blue Jean Baby….

Chambray, denim’s lighter cousin, had an empowering presence  for Spring. Designers like Thakoon showed multi true-blue fabrics, in tailored suits, dresses and other silhouettes.  I am personally getting into the denim on denim action. The Candian Tuxedo is making a huge comeback and I for one is jumping full force onto that boat.

Look at this look from Thakoon. The vest and matching jean would look super cute paired with a blush colored blouse.

Here is a really cute denim dress by Rebecca Taylor that would be great for your spring wardrobe. wear this little number with a pair a wedges to bring a little Spring in your step.

I found a few inspiration photos of a few stylish ladies sporting the Canadian Tuxedo….

However you want to rock your denim for spring, know that you will be looking fierce and on trend.

Trend Tuesday…

Wearing nail polish goes in waves. I can rock my fave new color for weeks at a time and then there are days where I just do not have the time to sit, paint, and let it dry. With Spring here, I need to make sure I keep up with my bi-weekly Manni and Pedi. This is one thing I NEED to make time for.

I have discovered and grew into this new upcoming trend has been getting my attention. It is where you wear two similar but totally different colors on your nails. It kind of takes me back to when I was in junior high and just discovered how amazing nail polish was and I would paint each nail a different color.

Lately, I have been painting my thumb’s and ring finger’s Fiesta pink and the other nailsCoralCanyon(Both of these are found at my Fave nail polish site Essie).  From far away you can’t really tell but when you look up close it is a totally noticeable.

I wore it out the other night and one of my guy friends joked and asked “if I ran out of nail polish?” I then mentioned that he had to look twice before making that silly comment.

I think as long as you keep it in the same color family and not do all black and one white. I found a few Celebrities jumping on my band wagon.

Have fun with it. It is not that huge of a commitment. If you don’t like it, grab nail polish remover and change it.

Fall In Love Friday…

I need to introduce you to my latest internet obsession… Jessica and Hunter are the most high-larious thing to hit the World Wide Web since celebrity sex tapes…I am not kidding. I usually talk about fashion, trends, tips & tricks but If you are ever having a rough day or need a laugh-sky, This trash talking, booze chugging, powder sniffing, mary-Kate and Ashleys down syndrome siblings are just what the therapist ordered .

I wanted to show you all first hand just how trashy, filthy, and  funny this fabulous tattooed orange gay man and his drunken fruit-fly (fag hag but pretty)  are in action. I think you all will agree that this is AMAZE-BALLZZZ
(their signature phrase)

They are sooooo over the top and I L-O-V-E  all of their shenanigans.
