Inspiration Into Reality

One of the things that inspire is honestly walking around the streets of New York. I am also a big fan of my monthly subscriptions to all my fave mags.  I could be going about my regular day and then in an instant I can turn a corner and see an outfit  that stops me dead in my tracks. I  keep a file of pictures I take or come across of outfits that I would love to recreate and put my own spin on it.

My first look is a cute girl wearing a bright jacket with a stripe shirt and distressed shorts. I knew I had every element of that outfit right in my closet. Here I put my spin on it…

The next look is super fun and casual for a weekend brunch with girls. I took one look at the inspiration picture and knew right away I had all these things already in my closet. I turned my stripe dress in a skirt. For the vest, I had this old GAP denim jacket that I cut off the sleeves and gave it an updated alteration.

My Steals & Deals…

This past week I waited in line for an hour in the rain to feast my eyes and shopping fangs on deals at the Alexander Wang sample sale in NYC. When I got to the front of the line I only had 30 minuets inside before they closed the doors for the night. I first found a gorgeous peacock-blue knit jacket that is cut hight in the back. It is oversized and is stunning. I found it on the ground in a pile of rubbish. As I was in line waiting to pay I noticed a cream oversized knit sweater on a rack  alone. I quickly through it over my blouse and it felt like the perfect fit.

Today I decided to go shopping in my closet and pair my new-found items with other things that I already own. Here are my fave outfits,

I paired this Alexander Wang Blazer with a fun floral dress and a striped belt I bought last season at Forever 21. I then decided to keep it casual and pulled out some sandals that I bought at a the cutest  local boutique in he Upper West Side called ShiShi. Keeping my accessories simple I added my new Michael Kors double wrap watch I bought from Net-A-Porter.com. This jacket is very easy to mix and match everything in my closet and it was the a great steal!

Second, I decided to pair my oversized sweater with a floral maxi skirt and chunky heeled sandals. With the skirt being so busy I found a simple pendent to  necklace that I found in my jewelry box that  I got from a local designer in San Francisco Jennifer Tuton. I know this sweater will be a great transition piece in Fall. I know I will get a lot of use from this amazing deal I got.

Sample Sales are one of my fave things to do now that I live in New York. Especially  when they are my fave designers.

Why Am I So Mixed Up???

One of the trends I am falling in love with this week is mixing and matching patterns. I found a few pictures from some  fashionista’s who executed this trend effortlessly. When matching 3 or more patterns, it is important that they are not the same design. This will prevent your patterns from visually competing with one another. For example: A striped skirt should not be worn with a striped blouse. Instead, exchange one of the striped patterns for a geometric pattern. This will give you a more cohesive look. Make sure you do not over doooo your patterns. Do not exceed three different patterns in a single outfit.

Olivia is wearing a busy floral skirt and the striped shirt is a good contrast because of the muted beige and orange color. Bianca is wearing a leopard jumper and  mixed it up with different texture blazer. Margherita is the queen at carrying off multiple patterns. That is what Missoni is all about.

I took it upon myself to go shopping in my closet this morning and pick out a few looks that I will be wearing this week and sporting my love for this trend.

The leopard button up blouse ( Zara) is a busy top in itself. The polka-doted shorts I bought from Topshop complement the top without competing with it. By adding the Rebecca Minkoff croc embossed bag, I gave it an added texture dimension. The Mea Shadow cut out wedges work because they are a nude color that will blend into my skin and will make my legs appear longer. Lastly, I added the brown vintage belt to break up the patterns so it all look cohesive and flawless.

This Missoni Dress(shown below) works because of the monochromatic hues are in the same color family. The Yellow belt adds a pop of fun and yet is contrasting to the dress. Add a pair of leopard wedges that   is minimal,  only covering the toe’s. I would not suggest  full animal print bootie. A little shoe flair complements the dress and belt.

Mixing and matching patterns can be done outside of just your clothes. I wanted to take a picture of my living room to show you that contrasting can also be used in interior design as well. I love bright colors and different textiles in my apartment and wanted to share just how fun and easy it is to add some spice to a living area as well as you clothing.

The main reason why I love mixing and matching is because you can have so much fun and be creative. The key to this trend is not taking it toooo seriously. NOW….Go to your closet, have fun and enjoy.

Your Closet is now in your pocket…

Like most Americans such as myself who have managed to get their hands on Apple’s IPhone are familiar with the applications. There are 100’s of Apps.  that make your life easier, more exciting and organized.  Back in November there was an application that catalogs your closet and keeps a daily calendar of what you wore. Need Help deciding what to wear? IPhones Pocket ClosetApplication will help your mornings get much easier.  It’s your own personal wardrobe manager.

I have had this Pocket closet app. on my phone for a few weeks and my favorite detail is when I am meeting up with people I saw a few weeks prior, I now don’t have to worry about wearing the same thing.  The built in calendar lets me know when and where I wore that blouse or dress before.

This Application is much more than a list of all your clothes. For as little as .99cents you can have this fun new way to help make decisions for you, so you can worry about the bigger things in life.
